FAQ

Q: Can the scanning damage my original negative or slide?
A: Impossible. The negative or slide is manually inserted in a specially fitted frame that does not touch the surfaces of the original. A gentle burst of clean air is blown across the surface to remove loose particles, and that’s it.

Q: Some slides are in cardboard mounts, other in plastic mounts, and some even have glass in the mount. Is that a problem?
A: Not at all. I can work with any type of slide mount, as long as it is 35mm.

Q: How do I get my originals to you?
A: You can mail them to me, or drop them off in person. I suggest you use tracked shipping in case you are mailing them.

Q: How long will it take?
A: That depends on the number of originals and the resolution you want. Turn-around time is usually around 10 working days.

Q: Do I know how much it will cost beforehand?
A: Yes, there will be no surprises. Please see my price list. If I need to quote you, I will stand by the quoted price.

Q: How do you get the digital images to me?
A: Great question! Your choice is to supply a new (sealed, in the pacakge) USB stick, or I provide you with one at a reasonable price.

Q: I have a USB stick, but it isn’t new. Can I use it?
A: For security reasons, I will only transfer the images to a new stick. That way I can guarantee the digital images will not be corrupt and mitigates the chance of introducing a virus into my PC.

Q: In what format are the digital scans saved?
A: For Low and Medium resolution, the files are saved as JPG. For High resolution scans, the files will be saved as TIFF files, unless requested otherwise.

Q: Can you remove or add people from group photos?
A: Usually, yes, but it does depend on the group photo.

Q: Can you isolate a person from a group photo and enlarge it?
A: I can isolate a person. The quality of the enlarged image depends on the size and quality of the original image.

Q: How do I watch the digital pictures? Can you make a DVD?
A: Any computer or TV with USB input can play back your memories. A DVD is certainly possible. See the price list for options.
